本片由德國著名導演韋納荷索（Werner Herzog）執導，描繪英國傳奇女性探險家葛楚德貝爾（Gertrude Bell）的生平故事，包括她在20世紀初中東政治的斡旋角色。 片中由妮可基嫚飾演有「女版阿拉伯的勞倫斯」稱號的英國女探險家葛楚德貝爾，在19世紀末、20世紀初前往中東地區穿梭於英國官方與各部族之間。
