劇情簡介
悲慘的過去讓十二歲的男孩查克（尼克·斯塔爾 Nick Stahl 飾）比同齡人多了一份成熟與穩重，在他的內心裏，能夠就讀死去的父親曾經待過的學校是查克最大的心願。一次偶然中，查克遇見了名為麥克裏歐（梅爾·吉布森 Mel Gibson 飾）的男人，剛開始，麥克裏歐那張猙獰可怖的臉龐嚇了查克一跳，然而，隨著時間的推移，查克漸漸瞭解到，原來麥克裏歐曾經是一名老師，為了救自己的學生而容貌被毀。 查克和麥克裏歐，兩顆充滿了孤獨的心靈越靠越近，相互取暖，就在這時，對查克毫不關心的母親格勞麗婭（菲·馬斯特森 Fay Masterson 飾）突然開始關註起查克的一舉一動來，她對麥克裏歐的過去諱莫如深，同時禁止查克再同他有任何的來往。
