劇情簡介
敘述在美國海軍服役的湯姆道奇少校，是一位富領導能力、善謀略且體恤部屬的好長官，然而因酒醉後遭人在身上重要部位刺青，以致成為軍中笑柄，升遷無門。 三軍上將溫瑟將軍賞識他的才幹，欲藉演習任務提升升遷的機會，此項演習任務受到海軍上將葛姆百般刁難，形成柴油潛艇對抗核子艦隊；雜牌兵對正規軍的懸殊差距，甚至安排了一名女性軍官(羅蘭荷莉飾)在道奇指揮的潛艇值勤，笑料百出，機智的道奇少校最後終於在全體船員同心協力下完成任務，順利晉升指揮官。
